Building a Global Network

The Case School of Engineering may be located in Northeast Ohio, but the world is its home.

From study abroad opportunities for students to global alumni networks to unique joint degree programs with institutions spanning several continents, the Case School of Engineering prides itself on being part of a connected world.

International Students at Case Western Reserve

International Students

Almost 20 percent of the university’s student population is from outside the United States. We place value on being a diverse and welcoming place to study. The university’s International Student Services office provides many resources for students coming to study at Case Western Reserve from abroad, and many of our student organizations are geared toward bringing students together, wherever they call home.

Case Western Reserve University’s Office of Education Abroad offers our undergraduate students more than 400 opportunities to spend anywhere from a week to a semester or year learning outside the United States—with established programs in more than 40 countries. For engineering students, there are also specific opportunities to complete engineering coursework in other countries, such as a global health design course in Uganda over spring break or a four-week exchange at Tianjin University in China.

Case School of Engineering also participates in the Global Engineering Education Exchange Program—a consortium of more than 70 engineering schools that provides opportunities for students to study and even take internships in more than 20 countries. Learn more about our global programs for students, including unique intern abroad and research abroad options.

Unique Degree Exchange Programs

Our school offers a variety of tailor-made global exchange programs with partner schools internationally that allow students, for instance, to complete their first three years at their home institution and two more at Case School of Engineering, receiving their bachelor’s degree from their home institution and a Case School of Engineering master’s degree upon completion. Such exchange programs are currently in place with Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Hunan University, Hebei University of Technology,  Southeast University, Tianjin University and Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Additionally, a new program with the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education allows Brazilian students to receive their master’s degree and PhD in Polymer and Colloids Science and Engineering through a unique academic partnership with their home university in Brazil and Case School of Engineering. The Case School of Engineering has an active Engineers Without Borders chapter, which plans and implements valuable engineering projects on a volunteer basis across the globe as well as close to home. Students have led projects everywhere from the Dominican Republic to Cameroon to Thailand.

Global Alumni Networks

The university has more than 110,000 alumni from 92 countries across the world. Active Case Western Reserve alumni chapters are everywhere from London to Jakarta, so it's easy for alumni to stay connected—even thousands of miles from Cleveland. Find the alumni chapter closest to you. And, with more than 75 percent of the university’s international alumni living in the Asia/Pacific region, the Case School of Engineering is especially dedicated to engaging with its community in this region. In fact, the engineering school is leading a university-wide initiative to continue to strengthen and grow these active alumni networks. The school regularly hosts alumni events and has active groups on social media channels like WhatsApp and WeChat throughout Asia and the Pacific.
