Kurt Rhoads, assistant professor of civil engineering, made an assessment of the environmental impacts of the East Palestine, Ohio, chemical spill. He noted that while surface water contamination will likely only be a problem for a short period of time, problems with groundwater could unfold over a longer term and could present a problem for East Palestine residents with private wells.
